Young Leafs still learning the ropes
During a brief down moment in practice Wednesday, Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere huddled with forward Luca Caputi and gave the rookie a few tips. The team had been working on a power-play drill and Caputi's job was to get his six-foot-three, 200-pound frame in Giguere's way.

NHL GMs agree on new head shot rule
NHL general managers have developed the framework for a new rule punishing hits to the head. The league's 30 GMs wrapped up three days of meetings with a new rule that allows referees to assess a minor or major penalty for blindside hits that target the head.

Thrashers call up Chelios, will play Thursday
The Atlanta Thrashers have a newcomer in 48-year-old defenceman Chris Chelios, an 11-time all-star. Chelios joins the Thrashers after getting five goals and 17 assists in 46 games with Chicago of the AHL. The team recalled Chelios on Wednesday.
